Salisbury, MD - The City of Salisbury will cut the ribbon on the Salisbury Headquarters building, which houses the new City Council Chambers and Downtown Salisbury Visitor Center, on Friday, Aug. 18.The building, a former City firehouse, is located at 115 S. Division St. in Downtown Salisbury. The ribbon cutting begins at 5:30 p.m., and Mayor Jack Heath will speak. The public is invited to attend."This building is ideal for the City of Salisbury's needs," Heath said. "We are looking forward to hosting City Council meetings here, and the space can also be used for other public events. The Visitor Center is also located in this building, right in the footprint of numerous community gatherings."The winner of the inaugural Maryland Folk Festival Poster Challenge will also be announced during the ribbon cutting event. Members of the public have had since late July to vote on their favorite of the top 10 posters. The winner will earn a $2,000 prize, and posters will be sold at the festival, set for Sept. 22-24 in Downtown Salisbury. The Salisbury Headquarters building also contains employee offices for the Mayor's Office, Clerk's Office and Arts, Business and Culture Department. The Mayor's Office and Clerk's Office moved out of the Government Office Building, which provided more space in that building for other City departments. The Visitor Center and Arts, Business and Culture Department moved from a location on North Division Street. The ribbon cutting will be held during the City of Salisbury's monthly 3rd Friday event, held on the third Friday of each month in Downtown Salisbury. 3rd Friday runs from 5-8 p.m. and features live music, crafters and Renaissance-related activities for this month's Ye Olde Time Warp theme.© Eastern Shore Undercover LLC TM/SM.
