SALISBURY MAN SENTENCED TO 45 YEARS IN PRISON FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF A MINOR AND THIRD-DEGREE SEXUAL OFFENSE

Wicomico County, MD - On May 21, 2025, a Salisbury man pled guilty to multiple crimes in the Circuit Court for Wicomico County, where the Honorable S. James Sarbanes presided over a case. The case involved Angel Ortega-Gonzalez, who, at 34 years old, faced sentencing for serious offenses of Sexual Abuse of a Minor and two counts of Sexual Offense in the Third Degree.
The sentence handed down was both severe and significant-Ortega-Gonzalez received 45 years of incarceration within the Division of Corrections. This sentence carries lifelong implications including upon his release, he will be subject to Lifetime Sexual Offender Supervision and will be labeled a Tier III Sexual Offender for the rest of his life.
The crimes for which Ortega-Gonzalez was sentenced occurred between 2018 and 2022, during which he heinously abused two minor children residing in his home. The gravity of the offenses is compounded by the ages of the victims: one child was under 17, and the other was under the age of 10.
For two years, Ortega-Gonzalez managed to evade law enforcement until he was captured by the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force (CARFTF).
This case has ignited a broader conversation about justice and protection for the most vulnerable members of society. Wicomico County State's Attorney Jamie L. Dykes did not hold back in addressing the resolution, stating firmly, "Justice will be brought to those who sexually abuse children within Wicomico County."
Dykes emphasized the effectiveness of a collaborative approach, highlighting the role of the Wicomico County Child Advocacy Center and law enforcement's commitment. Through their combined efforts, Ortega-Gonzalez's apprehension and subsequent sentencing provide "some measure of peace and security" to the victims of these horrifying acts.
In acknowledging the key figures behind this legal victory, State's Attorney Dykes praised Detective M. Rockwell of the Salisbury Police Department, Sgt. J. Seichepine of the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office, and Child Protective Services, all of whom played crucial roles in the investigation.
Additional recognition went to Senior Assistant State's Attorney Michael Calabrese for his vigorous prosecution, showcasing an unwavering commitment to justice.
This case highlights the importance of vigilance, cooperation, and the persistent pursuit of justice within the community, serving as a stark reminder that those who exploit the innocent will be held accountable.
