Seaford, DE - Delaware State Police have apprehended a 33-year-old Seaford local, William Matthews, on drug offenses and resisting arrest after a traffic stop on February 16, 2024.

At 9:59 a.m., a state trooper patrolling Middleford Road and Old Furnace Road in Seaford, Delaware, noticed an equipment violation on a tan Ford Crown Victoria. The officer implemented a traffic stop, following which the suspect vehicle, driven by Matthews, pulled over at a residence on Hastings Farm Road.

Upon stopping, Matthews hopped out of the vehicle clutching a green container and started running towards the backyard of the residence, ignoring the trooper's repeated commands to stop. The trooper's keen eye spotted Matthews attempting to stash the green container under a shed in the backyard.

Despite continued dismissal of the trooper's commands, Matthews was eventually restrained and taken into custody following the use of a taser. The green container that Matthews was trying to hide was discovered to hold around 44 plastic capsules of crack/cocaine weighing nearly 23.97 grams, a quantity for personal use of marijuana, and $111 in cash.

The incident highlights the tireless efforts of Delaware State Police in keeping our communities safe from drug-related crimes.
