Search for Missing Waterman Paused Due to Weather

DEAL ISLAND, MD - A multi-agency search is currently underway for a commercial waterman from Somerset County, Maryland, who was reported missing on Monday, December 1, 2025.

Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) identified the missing man as 65-year-old Gregg Allan Thomas of Princess Anne, Maryland. Mr. Thomas was reported overdue on Monday afternoon. His boat was located unoccupied shortly thereafter in the Holland Strait area with its engine still in gear.

NRP, in conjunction with the U.S. Coast Guard and other local agencies, has been conducting surface and sonar search operations near Deal Island but have been unsuccessful at this point in locating Mr. Thomas.

Officials have announced that the search efforts are temporarily on hold due to inclement weather. The search is scheduled to resume at first light tomorrow, December 3, 2025.

The incident is under a joint investigation by the Maryland Natural Resources Police and the U.S. Coast Guard.
