Search Underway for Suspect Who Shot at Trooper During Traffic Stop in Baltimore City
State of MD - A search is underway for a suspect who shot at a Maryland State Trooper during a traffic stop in Baltimore City early this morning. The suspect is believed to be the driver of a gray passenger vehicle, possibly an Infiniti, displaying partial license plates. The vehicle is reported to have darkly tinted windows, front-end damage, and broken headlights. The trooper, whose identity has not been released, was transported to a shock trauma center for medical treatment of injuries sustained in the shooting. For clarity purposes, please be aware the trooper suffered powdered burns due to the close proximity of the shooting, but he was not shot. Shortly before 3:30 a.m., a Maryland State Trooper from the Golden Ring Barrack attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the gray Infiniti at the intersection of Belle Avenue and Milford Avenue in Baltimore City. The trooper approached the driver's side of the vehicle to make contact with the driver. The door opened slightly, and shots were fired from inside the car toward the trooper. The trooper did not return fire. The driver fled the scene, traveling east on Belle Avenue. Troopers from the Criminal Enforcement Division, assisted by officers from the Baltimore Police Department and the Baltimore County Police Department, responded to the scene immediately after hearing the broadcast. EMS personnel arrived on scene and transported the trooper by ground to the hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
