Shawn Wootson Arrested for 2024 Delaware Hospital Murder and Attempted Rape
State of Delaware - The Delaware State Police arrested a 24-year-old man from New Castle, Delaware on charges of murder and attempted rape. Shawn Wootson was taken into custody following an extensive investigation into a 2024 death in Newark, Delaware.
On November 23, 2024, at approximately 8:30 p.m., troopers responded to a retention pond at the Christiana Hospital campus. The campus is located at 4755 Ogletown Stanton Road.
Troopers found 42-year-old Amie Bradley, of North Carolina, unresponsive at the scene. Life-saving efforts were initiated. Bradley was transported to the hospital by emergency medical services, where she was later pronounced dead.
The Delaware State Police Criminal Investigations Unit and the Homicide Unit assumed control of the case. Wootson was identified as a person of interest during the investigation.
Detectives located evidence indicating the victim was strangled and subjected to an attempted sexual assault. Law enforcement could not immediately contact Wootson, as he fled the state shortly after the incident.
On March 16, 2026, investigative findings were presented to a New Castle County Grand Jury. The grand jury indicted Wootson for the murder of Bradley. On March 17, 2026, detectives and the Special Operations Response Team apprehended Wootson. He was transported to Troop 2 for questioning.
During a break in the interview, Wootson was confined to a formal interview room. He accessed the ceiling and attempted to escape the facility. He was apprehended after a taser was deployed. A large police presence was stationed outside the building as a precaution. Additional charges related to the escape attempt are pending.
Wootson was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2. He was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $2,060,000 cash bond. He is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of second-degree attempted rape.
