Somerset County Public Schools 2025-2026 Academic Calendar Revisions

Somerset County, MD - A revision to the 2025-2026 academic calendar has been announced by Somerset County Public Schools (SCPS). The calendar modification was approved by the Somerset County Board of Education during a meeting held on March 24, 2026.

The adjustment was made to address three inclement weather closure days that occurred on February 23, 24, and 25, 2026. During this period, widespread power and internet outages were experienced across the area. These outages prevented the implementation of virtual instruction for students.

Specific changes have been implemented to account for the loss of three instructional days and to maintain compliance with state requirements. Tuesday, April 7, 2026, is now scheduled as an instructional day for students. This date was previously designated as a professional development day for staff.

Additionally, two instructional days have been added to the end of the academic year. These instructional days are scheduled for June 16 and 17, 2026. The last day of school for students is now determined to be Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

It is noted by SCPS that the conversion of April 7 to an instructional day is provided with limited notice. The potential impact on previously scheduled plans for students, families, and staff is recognized by the district.
