Stevensville House Fire Ruled Accidental from Wood Stove
Stevensville, MD. - A fire on Thursday afternoon caused significant damage to a single-family home in Queen Anne's County, displacing a family of five.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:47 p.m. on November 13, 2025, in the 400 block of Creeks End Lane. A neighbor discovered the fire at the two-story residence and alerted authorities.
The Kent Island Fire Department was the primary responding agency. A total of 40 firefighters battled the single-alarm blaze, bringing it under control in approximately three hours and 13 minutes.
The estimated damage to the structure is $650,000, with an additional $100,000 loss in contents.
An investigation determined the fire originated in the chimney area. The preliminary cause has been ruled accidental, resulting from a malfunction or failure of the home's wood stove.
No residents were home at the time of the fire. Smoke alarms were present in the dwelling, but their activation status is unknown.
Two adults and three children were displaced by the fire. Tragically, two dogs and a rabbit perished in the incident.
The American Red Cross and family members are assisting the displaced residents.
