Stevensville Man Cited for Undersized White Marlin in White Marlin Open

Ocean City, MD - On August 6, Maryland Natural Resources Police officers were notified of an undersized white marlin at the weigh-in station of the White Marlin Open fishing tournament in Ocean City, Maryland.
Investigation revealed the fish measured 59 inches, which is seven inches below the 66-inch minimum size limit established by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
Due to its size, the marlin was not weighed as part of the tournament.
After speaking with the crew, officers determined the fish was measured by its overall length instead of the lower jaw fork length, which is the legal measurement method.
The boat's captain, a 60-year-old man from Stevensville, was issued one citation for possession of an undersized billfish. This charge carries a maximum fine of $1,000.
