Seaford, DE - A police chase in Sussex County resulted in a crash and an arrest on Wednesday evening after Delaware State Police reported that a Seaford man stole a vehicle and recklessly fled from law enforcement.
The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Allen Davis of Seaford, faces numerous charges after allegedly stealing a black Buick LaCrosse and leading troopers on a dangerous pursuit that endangered both drivers and pedestrians.
The incident began around 6:40 p.m. on June 11, when a Delaware State Trooper noticed the Buick driving erratically on Sussex Highway near Norman-Eskridge Highway. When the trooper attempted to pull the vehicle over, Davis allegedly refused to stop, making multiple illegal U-turns, running red lights, and even driving on the wrong side of a turn lane.
At one point during the chase, the vehicle's hood unexpectedly flew open. Witnesses reported seeing Davis sticking his head out of the window to navigate while continuing to flee at high speeds. Troopers confirmed that the Buick had been reported stolen earlier that day.
The pursuit ended chaotically at the intersection of Sussex Highway and Concord Road, where Davis crashed into a stationary red Nissan Kicks. The 52-year-old driver of the Nissan was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
After the crash, Davis reportedly refused to exit the vehicle and resisted arrest. He was eventually taken into custody with assistance from the Seaford Police Department.
While being transported to Delaware State Police Troop 5, Davis allegedly tried to escape custody by kicking and damaging the interior of the police vehicle. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) transported him to a nearby hospital for evaluation before he was cleared and returned to Troop 5. Troopers observed signs of impairment, leading to a legal blood draw as part of a DUI investigation.
Investigators later discovered that Davis had stolen the car from a 40-year-old acquaintance just before the pursuit began. The victim reported that he had pulled over on Front Street Extended after Davis flagged him down.
Davis allegedly implied he had a gun, forced the man from the driver's seat, and threatened to kill him. As the victim attempted to escape, he became entangled in his seatbelt while Davis accelerated. Davis also reportedly grabbed the victim by the hair to prevent his escape.
The victim eventually broke free and sought help at a nearby home, suffering minor injuries in the process.
Davis was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 7 and is currently held at Sussex Correctional Institution on a secured bond of $4,512. His charges include vehicle theft, reckless endangering, resisting arrest, DUI, and several traffic violations, among others.
Davis has been charged with the following:
- Theft of a Motor Vehicle (Felony)
- Disregarding a Police Officer's Signal (Felony)
- Unlawful Imprisonment Second Degree
- Offensive Touching
- Terroristic Threatening
- Criminal Mischief
- Resisting Arrest
- Attempt to Escape Third Degree
