Structure Fire Reported in Somerset County, Maryland

Somerset County, MD - On July 20, 2025, at approximately 4:50 PM, a structure fire was reported at a single-family residence located at 29000 Kingston Road, Westover, in Somerset County, Maryland.


The property involved was a single-story, wood-frame, single-family dwelling. The fire resulted in an estimated loss of $50,000 for the structure and an additional $10,000 for its contents.  


The fire was discovered by a neighboring resident, who promptly alerted authorities. The Marion Volunteer Fire Department served as the primary responding agency, with a total of 20 firefighters deployed to the scene.


The team successfully brought the fire under control within 20 minutes of their arrival.  


Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire originated in the rear bedroom of the residence. The cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental, resulting from a lightning strike.
