Structure Fire Reported on Shore Highway in Denton

Caroline County, MD - On March 29, 2026, at approximately 5:44 p.m., a structure fire occurred in the 26000 block of Shore Highway in Denton, Caroline County, Maryland. The incident initially involved a 24-foot by 32-foot detached garage before spreading to an adjacent residence.

The fire was discovered by a passerby. This individual safely alerted the occupants inside the adjacent residence.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire originated on the exterior of the detached garage. It subsequently extended into the garage and then to the neighboring dwelling.

Forty-five firefighters from the Denton Volunteer Fire Company and assisting agencies responded to the single-alarm fire. The incident was brought under control in approximately one hour.

Smoke alarms were present and activated at the time of the fire, though sprinkler systems were not present.

The fire caused significant damage to both the detached garage and the dwelling. The estimated loss for the structures and their contents is $300,000.

A family of six was displaced as a result of the incident. They are currently receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

The preliminary cause of the fire remains under investigation.
