Sunday Afternoon Kent County Structure Fire Under Investigation

Kent County, MD - On June 8, 2025, a structure fire occurred at a two-story mixed-use property located in the 100 block of N. Main Street in Galena, Kent County, Maryland. The incident took place at approximately 12:47 P.M. and was discovered by the building's occupants.
The primary responding fire department was the Galena Volunteer Fire Company, which dispatched 25 firefighters to the scene, with the assistance from surrounding fire departments.
Fortunately, the occupants were able to extinguish the fire using a fire extinguisher before the fire department arrived. The situation was under control within 15 minutes of the alarm being raised, and estimated damages were relatively low-$500 for the structure and $100 for the contents.
The fire originated from the exterior balcony on the second floor of the building. Although smoke alarms were present, they did not activate because the fire started and was contained on the outside of the building. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
