Suspect Arrested for Assault and Firearm Offenses Following Altercation with Deputies
Somerset County, MD - On December 31, 2025, at approximately 11:41 p.m., deputies from the Somerset County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of an assault involving a firearm in the 11100 block of Warwick Lane in Princess Anne, Maryland.
Upon arrival, Deputy First Class Kaleb Evans and Corporal Alex Ortis observed a black Nissan Altima fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed. DFC Evans initiated a traffic stop, which led to a brief pursuit.
The vehicle returned to the Warwick Lane address, where the sole occupant, identified as Delshaun Taylor of Westover, Maryland, exited the vehicle.
Despite lawful commands, Taylor refused to comply and actively resisted arrest. During the ensuing physical altercation, Taylor attempted to disarm DFC Evans of his duty weapon. Evans maintained control of the firearm, and Taylor was subsequently subdued.
Two deputies and an assisting Maryland State Trooper were assaulted during the struggle. Both deputies were transported to Tidal Health in Salisbury, Maryland, for evaluation.
One deputy sustained minor injuries, while the other suffered an incapacitating injury.
Further investigation revealed that Taylor had driven to the Warwick Lane address and confronted a male victim, allegedly pointing a handgun at him during an argument. An inspection of Taylor's vehicle located a loaded handgun with no serial number in plain view on the front passenger seat.
It was determined that Taylor is currently on probation and prohibited from possessing firearms.
Delshaun Taylor was charged with over fifteen criminal offenses, including:
- Assault, First and Second Degree
- Reckless Endangerment
- Attempt to Disarm a Law Enforcement Officer
- Second Degree Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer (Three Counts)
- Firearm Use in the Commission of a Felony/Violent Crime
- Illegal Possession of a Handgun and Ammunition
- Possession of a Firearm with No Serial Number
Taylor is currently incarcerated at the Somerset County Detention Center on a status of NO BOND following an initial appearance before the District Court Commissioner.
