SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR MARCH ASSAULT, RELEASED ON PERSONAL RECOGNIZANCE

Ridgely, MD - The Caroline County Criminal Investigation Division has arrested Michael Menzel and has charged him with first-degree assault following a juvenile assault. 

The investigation stems from an incident that occurred on March 15, 2024, where a 17-year-old male victim was assaulted with a knife while sitting in a passenger vehicle at the intersection of Central Avenue and Holly Road, in Ridgely, Maryland.

Following an intensive investigation, charges were filed against the suspect, Mr. Michael Menzel, leading to his arrest on April 29, 2024. 

Menzel was initially taken before the Caroline County District Court Commissioner, where he was charged with Assault First Degree, Assault Second Degree, and Reckless Endangerment. 

The following day, on April 30, 2024, Menzel was given a bond review in the Caroline County District Court in front of Judge Joseph Riley, where he was released on his own recognizance. 

As the case unfolds, the Caroline County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division seeks any information about the investigation. Update 5/2/2024 at 5:30 PM: This incident has been updated. From the initial information that we had, this was believed to be a stabbing but it was a assault with a knife.  The incident has been corrected to reflect the new information obtained.
