Thanksgiving Day Apartment Fire in Salisbury Ruled Accidental from Juvenile Playing with Fire

SALISBURY, MD - On Thursday, November 27, 2025, at approximately 4:59 PM, the Salisbury Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 800 block of South Schumaker Drive in Salisbury, Wicomico County, Maryland.

The fire occurred in an apartment of a three-story, wood-frame apartment building. The occupant discovered the fire, which originated in a bedroom. The smoke alarms and fire alarm system were present and activated upon the fire's discovery. The building's sprinkler system also activated as designed.

Five firefighters from the Salisbury Fire Department responded to the single-alarm fire and brought it under control within five minutes.

There were no injuries reported as a result of this fire. However, the fire displaced four residents. The estimated loss is valued at $25,000 in contents, with no structural damage reported.

The preliminary investigation determined the cause of the fire to be accidental, resulting from juvenile fire play. No arrests were made.
