THURSDAY MORNING CRASH CLAIMS THE LIFE OF GEORGETOWN WOMAN

Georgetown, DE - A tragic crash in Georgetown, Delaware has claimed the life of a 34-year-old woman and left a 29-year-old woman in critical condition. Delaware State Police have launched an investigation into the incident and provided the following information.

A fatal accident occurred at approximately 7:40 a.m. on Thursday, February 29, 2024, when a 2020 Volvo VHD roll-off container truck, traveling westbound on Shortly Road, collided with a 2008 Honda Civic moving southbound on Bull Pine Road. 

The Honda, according to sources, failed to stop at the intersection, putting it directly in the path of the oncoming Volvo. Upon impact, the Volvo continued in a southwesterly direction, overturning as it exited the roadway, while the Honda rotated and eventually stopped in the eastbound lane of Shortly Road.

The driver of the Honda, a 34-year-old woman from Georgetown, Delaware, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name is being withheld until her family is notified. Her passenger, a 29-year-old woman also from Georgetown, Delaware, was airlifted to an area trauma hospital and is currently in critical condition.

The Volvo's driver, a 59-year-old man from Millsboro, was also taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Shortly Road was closed for roughly 6.5 hours as the crash scene was investigated and cleared. The Delaware State Police continue to probe the circumstances leading up to this devastating accident.

The Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this incident. Troopers are asking anyone who witnessed this crash to contact Senior Corporal R.
