Town of Berlin Power Outages Scheduled for Transformer Maintenance
Worcester County, MD - Two town-wide power outages have been scheduled for May by the Town of Berlin Electric Department. These outages are required for maintenance on substation transformers located on Schoolfield Street.
The first outage is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, 2026. It will occur from 1:00 AM to 6:00 AM. During this time, one transformer will be removed for maintenance, testing, and painting.
The second outage is scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2026. It will occur from 1:00 AM to 7:00 AM. The first transformer will be reinstalled at this time. A second unit will then be removed for similar work.
Electric Utility Director Tim Lawrence stated, "These outages are necessary to conduct preventative maintenance, which will help prevent future long-term power outages."
A third planned outage is expected in the fall of 2026. This will allow maintenance to be completed on the remaining two transformers.
Maintenance projects are typically scheduled during the spring and fall. Electricity demand is lower during these months due to milder temperatures. The outages are also scheduled overnight on weekends to minimize community impact.
All work is weather-dependent. Updates will be issued by the town if the dates are rescheduled.
Official Town of Berlin communications should be monitored for additional information. Inquiries can be directed to Electric Utility Director Tim Lawrence at 410-629-1713 or tlawrence@berlinmd.gov.
