TRACY MATSATSOS, JR., CONVICTED OF SEXUAL ABUSE OF A MINOR, THIRD-DEGREE SEXUAL OFFENSE, AND RELATED OFFENSES

Wicomico County, MD - On August 15, 2023, following a two-day trial, a Wicomico County jury, presided over by the Honorable Kathleen L. Beckstead, Chief Judge of the Circuit Court for Wicomico County, convicted Tracy Matsatsos, Jr., 37 years of age, of two (2) counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor, two (2) counts of Third-Degree Sexual Offense, two (2) counts of Fourth Degree Sexual Offense, and two (2) counts of Assault in the Second Degree.Sentencing was deferred pending receipt of a mandatory pre-sentence investigation and mental health assessment. Matsatsos, Jr., will remain in custody pending sentencing.From 2015 through 2018, Matsatsos, Jr., sexually abused a minor in his care who was under the age of eleven years old.Wicomico County State's Attorney (SA) Jamie L. Dykes said, "Oftentimes, sexual violence perpetrated against children is done in secrecy with offenders exploiting the most vulnerable among us. The court process brings to light these egregious acts and allows survivors the opportunity to regain the power that was taken from them by their abusers. The survivor, in this case, displayed extraordinary courage in testifying at trial, and the jury's thoughtful verdict will ensure that justice is served."SA Jamie L. Dykes commended Detective D. Schultz of the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office, who was the lead investigator, Child Protective Services, and members of the Child Advocacy Center for their work in the investigation.
