Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Charges in Talbot County

Talbot County, MD - On December 20, 2025, Deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle.

The stop occurred on Treesdale Drive near Black Dog Alley and was initiated due to a moving violation.

During the stop, deputies established probable cause to search the vehicle. A K-9 team from the Talbot County Sheriff's Office assisted in the search. Controlled substances and related paraphernalia were subsequently located on a passenger in the vehicle.

The passenger was identified as Matthew Alan Smith, 47, of Federalsburg, MD. Smith was charged via criminal citations for the possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia.

He was released after signing the criminal citations.
