Traffic Stop Leads to Handgun Arrest in Laurel

Laurel, DE - On June 21, 2025, a routine traffic enforcement operation in Laurel, Delaware, led to the arrest of a Seaford resident on multiple charges, including firearm possession and possession of stolen property.
At approximately 3:08 p.m., officers from the Laurel Police Department were conducting traffic surveillance in the vicinity of Central Avenue and Daniel Street. During this operation, police observed an unregistered moped traveling southbound on Central Avenue.
A traffic stop was initiated, and the operator of the moped, identified as 19-year-old Santana Brown of Seaford, Delaware, was approached.
During the stop, officers noticed what appeared to be a firearm on Brown's person. Upon further inspection, the item was confirmed as a loaded 9mm Ruger semi-automatic handgun. Investigation revealed that the firearm had been reported stolen by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office in Kentucky.
Following the discovery, Brown was taken into custody without incident. The individual was charged with the following offenses:
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon/Deadly Instrument (CCDW/CCDI)
- Possession of Stolen Property
- Failure to Register Moped or Triped
Brown was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court #3 and subsequently remanded to the Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of a $7,550 secured bond.
