TSA Agents Are Working Without Pay and Families Are Paying the Price of being Political Pawns!
National News - Tens of thousands of Transportation Security Administration officers are showing up to work every day without receiving a paycheck. More than 61,000 TSA employees have been deemed essential and are required to keep working to protect the traveling public without getting paid.
These are not faceless government workers. They are parents, spouses, and neighbors doing a demanding job under extraordinary financial strain.
TSA employees have already worked 87 days without being paid in fiscal year 2026, and as of March 27, nearly $1 billion in payroll has not been paid out in a timely manner.
The consequences are real and severe. Officers are dealing with eviction notices, vehicle repossessions, empty refrigerators, and overdrawn bank accounts. Some have turned to selling plasma to make ends meet, while others are taking on second and third jobs just to keep the lights on.
This is the third shutdown in less than six months. Airport screeners have spent nearly half of the past 170 days with their paychecks held up by politics. The toll is showing. More than 400 TSA officers have quit since the partial shutdown began on February 14. Each departure leaves a gap that takes months to fill.
The political standoff centers on Democrats blocking Department of Homeland Security funding over demands for changes to immigration enforcement. The House passed DHS funding legislation on January 22 and again on March 5, providing more than $10.6 billion for TSA operations. The Senate has yet to act.
Democrats continue to play political games with the livelihoods of TSA officers and their families.
These men and women did not sign up to be bargaining chips. They signed up to keep the traveling public safe. The political back-and-forth needs to stop.
Every day this drags on is another day a TSA officer wonders how to pay rent or mortgage, cover a medical bill, or put food on the table for their kids.
That is not acceptable. It is time for our elected leaders to end this shutdown and pay the people who show up to keep our citizens safe!
