Tuesday's Structure Fire at Dorchester County Home Ruled Accidental
Cambridge, MD - A structure fire at a two-story single-family dwelling in Cambridge, Maryland, caused an estimated $2,000 in damages on Tuesday. The Rescue Fire Company responded to the incident in the 800 block of Phillips Ave at approximately 1:12 a.m. on January 27, 2026. Upon arrival, 15 firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes. The fire originated in a second-floor bedroom and was discovered by the home's occupant. Investigators have determined the preliminary cause to be accidental, citing that combustibles were placed too close to a heat source. There were no reported injuries or deaths resulting from the incident. However, one occupant has been displaced. The property did not have working smoke alarms at the time of the fire. Damages are estimated at $1,500 to the structure and $500 to the contents of the home.
