Two Arrested in Laurel on Drug & Weapon Charges

Laurel, DE - On November 18, 2025, the Delaware State Police arrested 57-year-old David Vasquez and 27-year-old Bethany Dean, both of Laurel, Delaware, on felony drug and weapon charges following the execution of a search warrant.

Members of the Sussex County Drug Unit and the Sussex County Governor's Task Force conducted a search at a residence located on the 31000 block of East Trap Pond Road in Laurel. The warrant was the result of an investigation into the distribution of illegal narcotics from the residence by Vasquez and Dean.

Prior to the execution of the warrant, detectives observed Vasquez leaving the property in a Dodge Ram. A traffic stop was conducted, and Vasquez was taken into custody without incident. Dean was detained inside the residence during the search.

The search of the residence resulted in the seizure of the following:

  • Approximately 161.11 grams of powder cocaine
  • Approximately 12.63 grams of crack cocaine
  • Approximately 1.62 grams of heroin
  • Approximately 9.62 grams of methamphetamine
  • 91 oxycodone pills
  • 10 gabapentin pills
  • 5 escitalopram pills
  • 4 knives with blades exceeding 3 inches

David Vasquez was transported to Troop 4 and charged with the following offenses:

  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony (4 counts)
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited - Prior Violent Crime Felony (4 counts)
  • Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, Tier 3
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance, Tier 3
  • Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, Tier 2 (2 counts)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance, Tier 2 (2 counts)
  • Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (4 counts)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance, Tier 1 (2 counts)
  • Conspiracy 2nd Degree
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Following his arraignment by Justice of the Peace Court 2, Vasquez was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on an $84,000 cash bond.

Bethany Dean was also transported to Troop 4 and charged with the following offenses:

  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony (4 counts)
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited - Prior Violent Crime Felony (4counts)
  • Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, Tier 3
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance, Tier 3
  • Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, Tier 2 (2 counts)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance, Tier 2 (2 counts)
  • Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (4 counts)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance, Tier 1 (2 counts)
  • Conspiracy 2nd Degree
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Following her arraignment by Justice of the Peace Court 2, Dean was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on an $84,000 cash bond.
