TWO SUSPECTS WERE ARRESTED AND A STOLEN VEHICLE WAS RECOVERED IN LAUREL DE

Laurel, DE - On November 13, 2023, at approximately 4:39 PM, the Laurel Police Department was dispatched to the 500 Block of Center Street in Laurel, Delaware to investigate a stolen motor vehicle.  The victim was reporting that they were driving home on Seaford Road and observed what they believed to be their own vehicle driving Northbound. When they arrived home, they found that their vehicle had been stolen. 

Police initiated their investigation and gave a lookout to surrounding agencies to assist with looking for the vehicle.  Police officers began searching the area to hopefully locate the vehicle.  

At approximately 4:55 PM, Officers from the Seaford Police Department located the stolen motor vehicle at the Royal Farms, which is located at 500 High Street. Seaford Police took a female driver into custody without incident at the location. 

Shortly thereafter, a male subject was also identified as being involved in the motor vehicle theft and arrested as well.

As part of the investigation, a search of the recovered vehicle was conducted and yielded multiple retail items that appeared to be packaged with tags that would normally be removed when paid for. 

Officers determined that prior to recovering the stolen vehicle, the vehicle was used to shoplift retail items from Dollar General in Laurel, Delaware, and Walmart in Seaford, Delaware. 

In addition to the stolen items, officers also located drug paraphernalia inside of the vehicle.

The male subject who was arrested was identified as Wardell Giles (56), and the female subject who was arrested was identified as Lakisha Weston (34) both from Laurel, Delaware. 

They were transported to the Laurel Police Department and charged with the following crimes:


  • Theft of Motor Vehicle (Class G Felony)


Giles was additionally charged with:


  • Receiving Stolen Property Under $1500 x2 (Class A Misdemeanor)

  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class B Misdemeanor)


Both subjects were arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 2. Giles was released on $3,500 unsecured bail, while Weston was released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
