Tyler Lynn Davis Sentenced for Attempted Murder of Virginia Beach Police Officer
State of VA - Colin D. Stolle, the Commonwealth's Attorney for Virginia Beach, announced that 26-year-old Tyler Lynn Davis has been sentenced to 58 years in prison. This sentencing follows his conviction for the attempted aggravated murder of a law enforcement officer. Davis was also sentenced on charges of use of a firearm, grand larceny, and conspiracy to commit grand larceny.
The sentencing was delivered by Circuit Court Judge Tanya Felton, who presided over the three-day jury trial. Judge Felton sentenced Davis to a total of 93 years, with 35 years suspended, resulting in an active term of 58 years.
Davis was found guilty of these charges on October 24, 2025. He also entered a guilty plea for possession of a firearm by a convicted violent felon on December 15, 2025.
The incident occurred on October 20, 2023, at the Kohl's department store located in Pembroke Mall. Evidence presented by the Commonwealth indicated that Davis, along with Jaclyn Anderson, Hayley Fernandes, and Brandon Foster, arrived at the location with the intent to steal merchandise.
Davis and the two women filled shopping carts with items including clothing, shoes, and suitcases. Foster waited in a van in the parking lot to facilitate their exit.
A Loss Prevention Officer observed the activity and contacted law enforcement. As store staff secured the exits, Davis utilized a fire escape door to exit the building. A Virginia Beach Police Department officer arrived on the scene in a marked vehicle with emergency lights activated.
As the officer exited the vehicle, Davis fired three shots in his direction. One bullet struck the police vehicle, however thankfully, the officer was not injured.
Davis fled on foot across Virginia Beach Boulevard. Police officers pursued him, and he was subsequently apprehended near a restaurant in the Town Center area.
Officers recovered the firearm on a median along the path Davis took. During a subsequent interview with detectives, Davis admitted to the theft, shooting at the officer, and fleeing the scene.
The co-conspirators, Anderson, Fernandes, and Foster, were also convicted for their participation in the incident. Davis holds prior convictions for offenses including burglary, larceny, receiving stolen property, drug possession, and eluding police.
The case was prosecuted by Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney Janeé D. Joslin and Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Brandon C. Emery.
