Vacant Home in Kennedyville Targeted in Second Suspected Arson Attack

Kent County, MD - A vacant residential home in Kent County, Maryland was damaged for a second time, in a suspected arson incident early Saturday morning. The fire occurred in the 11000 block of Augustine Herman Highway in Kennedyville, Maryland, at approximately 1:00 a.m. on August 23, 2025.


The Kennedyville Volunteer Fire Company responded to the scene as the primary fire department. Forty firefighters worked to control the blaze within 20 minutes of arrival. The incident required a second alarm response due to the structure's condition and circumstances.


A neighbor discovered the fire and alerted authorities. Investigators determined the fire originated on the exterior of the building. Preliminary findings indicate the cause was incendiary in nature.


Security cameras belonging to the Kennedyville Volunteer Fire Company captured footage of a suspect igniting the fire on the building's exterior. The individual was recorded fleeing the scene after starting the fire.


The incident marks the second suspected arson at this property. Investigators believe the same vacant dwelling was intentionally set on fire on February 28, 2025. The connection between the two incidents is part of the ongoing investigation.


Property damage from the latest fire is estimated at $50,000. The structure remained vacant at the time of both incidents.


Authorities have not released information regarding potential suspects or arrests related to either fire. The investigation continues as officials work to determine the circumstances surrounding both incidents at the property.
