State of Virginia - On March 7, 2026, at approximately 9:52 p.m., gunfire was reported in the 1800 block of Atlantic Avenue in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Officers from the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) were patrolling the Oceanfront Resort area when the incident occurred.

Six individuals sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. All victims were transported to local hospitals and are expected to recover.

Preliminary investigations indicate that two male suspects were shooting at each other, at which time, the six victims were struck by the gunfire.

Following the incident, both suspects fled the area on foot.

The victims include an 18-year-old female from Norfolk, a 19-year-old male from Suffolk, a 24-year-old male from Portsmouth, a 21-year-old male from Newport News, a 22-year-old male from New Kent County, and a 19-year-old male whose residency is currently unknown.

Police Chief Paul Neudigate stated, "As this was the first warm night of the year, we anticipated increased crowds and juvenile activity in the Resort Area. As a result, we deployed over 50 additional officers to the area Saturday night to augment the normal staffing for a weekend night. As I have stated repeatedly, police presence and visibility, even in large numbers, is no longer a sufficient deterrent for some of the individuals that frequent our Resort Area that are willing to resort to a gun to resolve conflict."

The VBPD Violent Crimes Unit is currently seeking the two outstanding suspects.

The first suspect is described as a Black male in his late teens or early twenties with dark skin and afro-style hair. He was last seen wearing black pants, black shoes, and a red shirt or sweatshirt.

The second suspect is described as a heavy-set White male in his late teens or twenties. He was last seen wearing black shorts and a white t-shirt with a design or lettering on the front.

Community assistance is requested to help identify these individuals. Anyone with information or video footage of the incident is asked to contact the VBPD at (757) 385-4101.
