VIRGINIA LAW ENFORCEMENT INVESTIGATING SUNDAY MORNING SHOOTING

Accomack County, VA - In the early morning hours of Sunday, February 11, 2024, at around 4:22 a.m., the peaceful quiet of the 32000 block of Hilltop Drive in New Church, Virginia, was disrupted by a disturbing sound of gunshots.

The Accomack County Sheriff's Office promptly received multiple reports and swiftly deployed deputies to ascertain the situation. Upon their arrival at the scene, the deputies were met with a chilling sight, a residence riddled with gunfire and echoes of a cry for help from within.

Without hesitation, deputies advanced into the residence and found a male individual critically injured from multiple gunshot wounds. The deputies, prepared for such dire situations, immediately provided first aid treatment, ensuring the individual's survival until emergency medical services reached the scene.

The male victim was then safely transported to a designated landing zone, where he was airlifted by Maryland State Police Trooper 4 to the University of Maryland Medical Center. As of now, he remains under the dedicated care of the Intensive Care Unit team.

This commendable operation was a collaborative effort between the Accomack County Sheriff's Office, the Virginia State Police, Parksley Volunteer Fire Department, Accomack County Department of Public Safety, and Maryland State Police Trooper 4.
