Virginia State Police Investigate Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting
State of Virginia - The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation Fairfax Field Office is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that took place on Interstate 495 southbound at exit 52 on March 1, 2026, at approximately 1:20 p.m.
A Virginia State Police trooper responded to the scene at approximately 1:17 p.m. following reports of a road rage incident. Upon arrival, the trooper encountered a male suspect armed with a knife. The trooper discharged his weapon in self-defense, striking the suspect.
The suspect has been identified as Jared Llamado, 32, of McLean, Va. Llamado was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. He later died from those injuries. The trooper involved in the incident was not injured.
Four individuals were found at the scene with stab wounds. Michelle Adams, 39, died from her injuries. A dog was also stabbed and is deceased. The three other victims-Dana Bonnell, 36, Mary C. Flood, 37, and Heather Miller, 40-were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries.
The preliminary investigation indicates the stabbings occurred following a crash on Interstate 495 southbound. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
Authorities have stated the incident is not believed to be terrorism-related.
The trooper involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
