W. David Bromwell Has Been Named Interim Superintendent of Somerset County Public Schools

Westover, MD - The Somerset County Board of Education has appointed Mr. W. David Bromwell as the Interim Superintendent of Somerset County Public Schools (SCPS). The board approved his employment contract on November 3, 2025, with his term effective from that date through June 30, 2026.

Mr. Bromwell has an extensive background in public education, bringing 36 years of experience from his career with Dorchester County Public Schools in Maryland. Prior to his retirement, he served as the Superintendent of Dorchester County.

His previous roles included teacher, assistant principal, principal, and various other leadership positions focused on student achievement.

The Board of Education stated its commitment to fostering academic growth, improving student behavior, and maintaining safe learning environments. It noted that Mr. Bromwell is the most experienced public-school superintendent currently serving on Maryland's Eastern Shore and that his leadership will guide the district through the 2025-2026 school year.

SCPS expressed appreciation for the educational leaders who recommended Mr. Bromwell and for his decision to return from retirement to serve the community. The Somerset County Board of Education and Somerset County Public Schools have officially welcomed him to his new role as Interim Superintendent.
