Worcester County, MD - The Water and Wastewater Division of Public Works has announced its semi-annual waterline flushing program will begin this fall across eleven service areas. The routine maintenance will take place between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on designated dates.

The program will cover Assateague Pointe, Edgewater Acres, Nantucket Pointe, Deer Point, Landings, Mystic Harbour, Newark, Ocean Reef, Sea Oaks, Riddle Farm and West Ocean City Service Areas. Officials have released a preliminary schedule for Fall 2025, though dates remain subject to change.

The flushing will begin October 13 and continue through October 24 for seven service areas. These include Assateague Pointe, Deer Point, Landings, Mystic Harbour, Ocean Reef, Sea Oaks, and West Ocean City.

Newark will receive attention on October 21, while Edgewater Acres and Nantucket Pointe are scheduled for October 23. The program concludes with Riddle Farm from November 3 through November 7.

Public Works crews will systematically open and close hydrants throughout each area. This process removes built-up iron deposits from the water system. The routine maintenance helps reduce the frequency of discolored water throughout the year.

Residents may notice temporary water discoloration during the flushing process. The suspended iron particles typically settle within a few hours after crews complete work in each section. Water discoloration may also occur on days when flushing is not scheduled in a particular area.

Officials recommend that residents allow water to run for several minutes if it appears cloudy during the maintenance period. The water should clear once the suspended particles settle. Residents with questions about the program can contact the Water and Wastewater Division at (410) 641-5251.
