West Virginia Man Arrested Following Multi-Jurisdiction Hit-and-Run Investigation

Bethany Beach, DE - Bethany Beach Police Department responded to a hit-and-run collision on October 12th that resulted in multiple charges against a West Virginia resident. The incident occurred at approximately 1:00 AM near the intersection of Route 1 and Parkwood Street. Officers received reports of a motor vehicle collision involving property damage in the area. Witnesses reported observing a pickup truck with West Virginia registration traveling northbound on Route 1. The vehicle struck a light pole and several street signs along the center median before leaving the scene without stopping. Bethany Beach Police Officers immediately issued a "Be On the Lookout" alert to surrounding law enforcement agencies. The alert included a description of the suspect vehicle. The Dewey Beach Police Department located the vehicle within their jurisdiction after it was involved in a second motor vehicle collision. Officers from DBPD arrested the driver at the scene on multiple charges. The driver, identified as Mark Beddow, 42, of West Virginia, and his passenger were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Both individuals were treated and released. Prior to Beddow's discharge from the hospital, Bethany Beach Police Officers responded to conduct a DUI investigation. Officers confirmed signs of impairment during their evaluation.
