Wicomico County Employees Attend MACo 2025 Summer Conference

Wicomico County, MD - The Wicomico County Department of Public Works attended the 2025 Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) Summer Conference, which took place at the Ocean City Convention Center in Ocean City, Maryland.


The event provided an opportunity for professional development, networking, and updates on upcoming regulations and legislation.


During the conference, representatives from Wicomico County Public Works participated in a variety of sessions and meetings. The conference covered several key topics, including transportation funding, energy program opportunities, and collaborative initiatives.


Highlights of the conference included:


  • A meeting with the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) Secretary and staff. Discussions focused on funding for Wicomico County transportation projects and potential new funding requests.
  • Conversations with the Maryland Energy Administration about the $50 million GEM Grant program. The program could offer funding opportunities for Building Energy Performance Standards (BEPS) compliance and landfill gas system upgrades in Wicomico County.
  • Exploration of Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) and collaborations with state, local, and federal agencies, as well as private sector organizations.


The Public Works representatives, along with County Administration and other department heads, attended multiple meetings with state officials. These discussions emphasized collaboration on various projects to support the County's priorities and enhance infrastructure and public services.


The conference provided opportunities for in-person discussions and potential public-private collaborations. These interactions allowed departments to align priorities, maximize available resources, and advance initiatives that benefit the residents of Wicomico County.
