Wicomico County Executive Julie Giordano to Join Maryland Leaders To Address Pending Immigration Legislation
Wicomico County, MD - Wicomico County Executive Julie Giordano will join other Maryland leaders today to discuss new state legislation. The bill focuses on 287(g) agreements and cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Governor Wes Moore is expected to sign the emergency legislation soon. The bill was recently passed by the Maryland General Assembly.
If signed, it would ban 287(g) agreements in the State of Maryland. It would also limit how local governments and law enforcement agencies can work with ICE.
Giordano will attend a press conference at 3:00 PM today to address these changes. The event will take place at the Harford County Sheriff's Office Southern Precinct in Edgewood.
She will be joined by Harford County Sheriff Jeff Gahler and Frederick County Sheriff Chuck Jenkins. Patti Morin, the mother of Rachel Morin, will also be in attendance along with others.
The group intends to ask Governor Moore to veto the legislation. They will cite concerns regarding public safety and the importance of partnerships with local law enforcement.
Note: This press conference will be streamed live on the Harford County Sheriff's Office Facebook page.
