Woman Killed, Two Seriously Injured in Single-Vehicle Crash in Middletown

Middletown, DE - The Delaware State Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that occurred yesterday evening, on State Route 301 northbound, resulting in the death of one woman and serious injuries to two occupants.


The incident occurred on July 28, 2025, at approximately 6:08 p.m. A black 2018 Toyota Highlander was traveling in the left lane of State Route 301 northbound near the DE-71 overpass.


For reasons not yet determined, the vehicle left the roadway, entered the grass median, went up an embankment, and became airborne. The Toyota landed in the right lane of DE-71 northbound, overturned, and struck the jersey barrier before finally coming to rest on the right shoulder of the roadway.


The rear passenger of the Toyota was pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities have withheld her name pending notification of her family and relatives.


The driver, a 62-year-old man, and the front passenger, a 55-year-old woman, both residents of Bronx, New York, sustained serious injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.


The crash resulted in an approximately six-hour closure of the roadway as investigators from the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit processed the scene and cleared debris.
