SALISBURY, MD - Wor-Wic Community College will host the Shatter the Stigma Walk on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. The event will take place on the college campus at the Hazel Center quad. The walk aims to raise awareness of addiction and recovery resources available in the community.

The event is designed to encourage conversations about addiction while reducing associated stigma. Organizers hope to create an environment where individuals can seek help without experiencing shame or guilt. The walk features a stroller- and disability-friendly one-mile path that accommodates participants of all abilities.

Registration for the event is encouraged but not required. Participants can register online through the events section of www.worwic.edu. The college will provide additional information about the walk through the same website portal.

The event will include complimentary T-shirts and snacks for participants. Entertainment will feature juggler Cascading Carlos, face painting services, and music provided by a DJ. Additional activities and resources will be available throughout the event.

The walk is a collaborative effort between multiple organizations. Partners include Walk Wicomico, the Wicomico County Health Department, and Wicomico Goes Purple. Wicomico Goes Purple represents a countywide initiative focused on substance misuse prevention, treatment, and recovery.

Attendees will have access to addiction resource information during the event. The program will also include Naloxone training sessions for interested participants. These resources aim to provide practical tools and information for community members.

The event will proceed regardless of weather conditions. The free walk represents part of ongoing efforts to address the opioid crisis and promote available treatment services in the region.
