Salisbury, MD - Wor-Wic Community College is preparing to enhance its educational offerings with the launch of a state-of-the-art cybersecurity training facility. This initiative is a key component of the Maryland Cyber Workforce Accelerator (CWA) program and will be inaugurated on Tuesday, June 10th, at 3 p.m. The facility will be located in Room 200 of the Maner Technology Center.

The cybersecurity laboratory is outfitted with the BCR Cyber Series 3000 Cyber Range, an advanced training system designed to simulate real-world cyber-attacks. This setup will provide students with essential hands-on experience in cybersecurity.

The new facility aims to introduce students to critical cybersecurity concepts and operations in a controlled yet realistic environment.

Established in 2024, the CWA program is an initiative by the Maryland Association of Community Colleges and BCR Cyber to provide advanced cyber training facilities to all 16 community colleges across Maryland. With the introduction of the cyber range, Wor-Wic will offer dedicated remote workstations and resources for developing and implementing cybersecurity curricula. This will create a platform for students to enhance their skills alongside their peers and instructors.

Dr. Deborah Casey, president of Wor-Wic, commented on the development, stating, "Our cybersecurity program has been growing to meet the needs of our community and our students. This cutting-edge training reflects our commitment to equipping students with the tools they need to stay competitive in this high-demand field."

The initiative also aims to bridge the gap between education and employment, assisting graduates in securing positions in the industry and addressing the pressing demand for cybersecurity professionals in Maryland.

Brad Phillips, executive director of the Maryland Association of Community Colleges, remarked, "The Cyber Workforce Accelerator program, with its state-of-the-art cyber ranges, will be a game-changer for cybersecurity education in Maryland. We are proud to support this initiative at Wor-Wic and the positive impact it will have on students and the state's economy."

Michael Spector, president of BCR Cyber, added, "There is a significant demand in Maryland for skilled IT and cybersecurity professionals. Community colleges play a vital role in meeting this need and helping facilitate meaningful employment for job seekers. We are excited about the launch of the cyber range at Wor-Wic and the opportunities it presents."
