Worcester County Adopts New Room Tax Rate for 2026

WORCESTER COUNTY, MD - Worcester County has announced a change to the local room tax rate. Effective January 1, 2026, the tax imposed on short-term rentals will increase.

The rate is set to rise from the current 5% to 6%. This change applies to rentals within the county that have a duration of four months or less.

The updated tax rate covers a variety of lodging accommodations. These include hotels, motels, and apartments. Cottages and other similar establishments providing sleeping accommodations are also subject to the increase.

The tax is calculated based on the total amount paid for the rental of the room or building.
