Ocean Pines, MD - The Water and Wastewater Division of Public Works has announced its semi-annual waterline flushing program for the Ocean Pines Service Area. The maintenance activities will take place between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on scheduled dates throughout late October.

The proposed Fall 2025 flushing schedule includes specific dates for different areas within the service region. River Run is scheduled for October 14, while Pennington Commons Area will undergo flushing on October 27. Bay Point Plantations is set for October 30.

Ocean Pines Sections 1-19 will be flushed during the extended period from October 14 through October 30. The county notes that these dates are subject to change as needed.

The routine flushing process serves an important maintenance function for the water system. Public Works crews systematically open and close hydrants to flush out accumulated iron deposits. This preventive measure helps reduce the occurrence of discolored water throughout the system.

During the flushing activities, residents may notice temporary water discoloration. The process can cause brief increases in suspended iron particles, which typically settle within a few hours after completion. County officials emphasize that discolored water may occur even in areas not scheduled for flushing on a particular day.

Residents who experience cloudy water during the flushing period should allow their taps to run for several minutes until the water runs clear. The Water and Wastewater Division encourages anyone with questions or concerns to contact their office at (410) 641-5251 for additional information.
