Aerial Mosquito Spraying Set for Dorchester County

Dorchester County, MD - The Maryland Department of Agriculture is treating parts of Dorchester County by air to cut down the adult mosquito population. The spraying is set to begin the evening of August 13, 2026, weather permitting.

The plane doing the spraying is a twin engine aircraft. It is white with red and blue stripes and carries the registration number N903MD.

The aircraft will fly between 300 and 500 feet above the ground. Spraying will take place during the evening hours.

Several communities in Dorchester County are included in the treatment area. Those communities are Church Creek, Elliott Island, Madison, McKeil Point, Smithville, Susquehanna, Taylors Island and Woolford.

The insecticide being used is called Trumpet. It contains naled and will be applied at less than 1.0 fluid ounce per acre.

About 13,342 acres are expected to be treated. The Department of Agriculture says people, pets and livestock do not need to leave the area during spraying.

The notice was sent out to satisfy Federal Aviation Administration requirements for public notice of aerial spraying over communities. It was issued as a Public Information Release for immediate distribution.
