Wicomico County, MD - A fire broke out Saturday evening at an apartment building in Delmar, Maryland, displacing three residents and causing an estimated $3,500 in combined losses to the structure and its contents.

The incident was reported around 6:00 p.m. on May 23, 2026, in the 8700 block of Barbara Ann Way in Delmar, Wicomico County, Maryland. A passerby spotted the fire and called it in.

Fifteen firefighters from the Delmar Fire Department responded to a single alarm. They had the fire under control in just five minutes.

The fire started in the kitchen of the two story, wood framed apartment building. Investigators have preliminarily ruled the cause as accidental, the result of unattended cooking.

Smoke alarms in the building were present and activated during the fire. A sprinkler system was also in place, but the fire was too small to generate enough heat to trigger the sprinkler heads.

The structure sustained an estimated $2,500 in damage. Damage to the contents inside was estimated at $1,000.

Three residents were displaced as a result of the fire.
