Bay Bridge Run to Close Eastbound Span November 8, 2026
Queen Anne's County, MD - Anyone planning to cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge on Sunday, November 8, 2026, should plan for a slow trip. The eastbound span will be shut down from just after midnight until the afternoon so runners can take part in the Bay Bridge Run.
The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) is working with Anne Arundel and Queen Anne's counties to host the race. The run will take place on the eastbound side of the bridge.
The eastbound span is set to close at about 12:01 a.m. and stay closed until around 2 p.m., weather permitting. During that time, all bridge traffic will share the westbound span.
Crews will set up two-way traffic on the westbound bridge, with one lane running in each direction. The center lane will be closed, but the MDTA says it may open from time to time to help ease westbound backups.
The race also means some changes for drivers on the Eastern Shore side of the bridge. Two ramps at MD 8 will be closed while the event is going on.
If you're heading east on US 50, you won't be able to use the off-ramp to MD 8. A detour will send you to the next exit at Thompson Creek Road. From there, you'll take MD 835 westbound to the signal at MD 8.
The on-ramp from MD 8 to westbound US 50 will be closed too. Drivers trying to get on westbound US 50 will be sent to MD 18, then to the roundabout at Castle Marina Road, and then onto westbound US 50.
Local residents who want to head west on US 50 are asked to get on the highway at either Duke Street or Castle Marina Road.
The MDTA expects significant delays at the bridge throughout the day on November 8, 2026. The best way to avoid getting stuck is to cross before 6 a.m. or wait until after 6 p.m.
