Berlin Man Arrested for DUI at Cambridge Gas Station

Cambridge, MD - On September 9, 2026 at approximately 12:10 a.m., Cambridge Police Department officers responded to the area of Maryland Ave for a report of a possible intoxicated driver.

Officers found the vehicle parked at a gas pump at Sailwinds Station, on the corner of Maryland Ave and Sunburst Highway.

The vehicle was still running with someone sitting in the front seat.

Officers made contact with the occupant, who was identified as Javon Leonard Brittingham, 34, of Berlin, MD.

Officers said they noticed a strong smell of alcohol coming from the vehicle. A bottle of an alcoholic beverage was also visible inside.

Brittingham told officers he had been drinking earlier in the day. He was asked to step out of the vehicle and agreed to take a Standardized Field Sobriety Test.

Officers said he did not pass the test. Brittingham was then placed under arrest.

A search of the vehicle turned up a bottle of an alcoholic beverage. He was taken to CPD headquarters for further investigation.

While there, Brittingham agreed to a breath test. The results showed his blood alcohol concentration was 0.15.

Brittingham was charged with several offenses connected to the arrest.

Those charges include driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol per se, and driving while impaired by alcohol.

He also faces charges for driving with alcohol in his blood in violation of restrictions and for driving a vehicle without a required ignition interlock device. Additional charges include consuming alcohol in the passenger area of a vehicle and failing to display a registration card upon request.

Brittingham was released on traffic citations following the charges.
