Berlin Town Council Races Go Uncontested in 2026

Berlin, MD - Three Berlin Town Council seats have been filled without an election this year. Only one candidate filed for each seat, so the town will not hold its October vote.

The candidate filing period closed at 4:00 PM on Friday, September 25, 2026. When it ended, each open seat had just one person running.

Under the Town Charter and municipal election procedures, a race with only one candidate does not go to a vote. That means the election planned for Tuesday, October 6, 2026, will not take place.

The seats up this year were District 1, District 4 and At-Large. All three races were uncontested.
Matthew "Matt" Stoehr was elected as Councilmember for District 1. Anthony "Tony" Weeg was elected as Councilmember for District 4.

Jay Knerr was re-elected to the At-Large seat. Stoehr and Weeg will begin their time on the Berlin Town Council, while Knerr will keep serving in his current position.

All three Councilmembers will be sworn into office at the Mayor and Council meeting on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 7:00 PM. The meeting will be held at Buckingham Presbyterian Church, 20 S. Main Street, Berlin, MD.
