Wicomico County, MD - A boat fire at the Wicomico Yacht Club in Eden, Maryland caused an estimated $65,000 in damage early Saturday morning, but quick thinking by nearby boaters helped prevent it from spreading.

The fire broke out around 7:27 a.m. on June 6, 2026 aboard a 34-foot 1989 Carver Yacht docked on Yacht Club Road in Wicomico County, Maryland. The boat was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

Investigators say the fire started in a void space and was caused by an accidental electrical event involving shore line power.

The smoke alarm on the boat activated, and occupants of a nearby vessel heard it and spotted the fire. That early discovery made all the difference.

Fifteen firefighters from the Allen Volunteer Fire Company responded to the scene and had the fire under control in just 20 minutes. Their fast response kept the flames from reaching the covered dock building or any nearby boats.

The boat itself suffered an estimated $50,000 in damage. Contents aboard were estimated at a $15,000 loss.
