Boyfriend Arrested After Assault in Preston

Caroline County, MD - A Preston man is behind bars following a domestic assault that left a woman injured and her cell phone destroyed.

On June 10, 2026, deputies from the Caroline County Sheriff's Office responded to a residence in the 8000 block of Poplar Neck Road in Preston, Maryland, after receiving a report of an assault.

When deputies arrived, they made contact with the victim. She told them that a verbal argument with her boyfriend had escalated into a physical altercation. Deputies observed physical injuries on the victim that were consistent with her account.

The victim also reported that her cell phone was damaged during the incident. The suspect had already left the scene before law enforcement arrived.

Deputies completed an application for charges and submitted it to the Caroline County District Court Commissioner. Later that same day, the Sheriff's Office received an arrest warrant for the suspect.

The warrant charged him with Second Degree Assault and Malicious Destruction of Property.

Deputies located and arrested the defendant, identified as Damion L. Smith, a 22-year-old male from Preston, Maryland. He was transported to the Caroline County Sheriff's Office for processing.

Smith then appeared before a District Court Commissioner for his initial appearance. Following that hearing, he was ordered held without bond at the Caroline County Detention Center, pending a future court date.
