Bridgeville Man Charged After Threatening Two With Gun in a Barn

State of DE - On September 17, 2026, at approximately 11:40 p.m., Delaware State Police responded to the 500 block of Black Swamp Road in Felton, Delaware for a report of an assault.

Troopers say 55-year-old John Baker, of Bridgeville, Delaware illegally entered a barn on the property and got into a verbal dispute with a victim inside.

That dispute turned physical when Baker began assaulting the victim, according to police. Baker was described as intoxicated at the time.

During the fight, Baker pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the victim, threatening to kill him.

A second victim then walked into the area. Baker pointed the gun at him too. As he ran from the barn, Baker fired one shot into the air before leaving the property. Neither victim was hurt.

The Delaware State Police Criminal Investigations Unit took over the case. Investigators recovered a spent shell casing from the scene.

On September 18, 2026, Baker called 9-1-1 himself. He told dispatchers he was at a gas station in the 11000 block of South Dupont Highway in Felton, Delaware. Troopers and detectives went to the gas station and took him into custody without incident.

Detectives later learned Baker had given the firearm to a friend before his arrest. They tracked down and recovered the gun.

Baker was taken to Troop 3, where he was charged with the following offenses:

• Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
• Burglary First Degree (Felony)
• Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)
• Aggravated Menacing (Felony) - 2 counts
• Reckless Endangering First Degree (Felony) - 2 counts
• Tampering with Physical Evidence (Felony)
• Terroristic Threatening
• Offensive Touching
  

He was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Department of Correction on a $116,600 cash bond.
