Cambridge, MD - A Cambridge man is facing criminal charges after a 2-year-old child was seriously injured earlier this year, according to the Cambridge Police Department.

At approximately 10:58 p.m. on April 27, 2026, Cambridge Police Department (CPD) officers responded to the 700 block of Saint Claire Avenue in Cambridge, Maryland.

Officers located and arrested Shaquon Dariyelle Jones, 31, on an active Dorchester County District Court arrest warrant. Jones was transported to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections and is being held on no bond.

Jones was charged with Neglect of a Minor and Reckless Endangerment.

The charges stem from an incident that took place on the morning of March 11, 2026. CPD Detectives were notified at approximately 8:00 a.m. after receiving a referral from Child Protective Services (CPS) regarding an alleged case of child neglect.

A 2-year-old child had been flown to Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C. with burns to their back.

Detectives from the CPD Criminal Investigation Division (CID) launched an investigation alongside CPS. Through that investigation, Jones was identified as the father of the injured child.

According to investigators, Jones told detectives and CPS that he had placed the 2-year-old in the sink to be cleaned. While the child was in the sink with water running, another small child in the home began to cry.

Jones left the 2-year-old in the sink to check on the other child. When he returned, the 2-year-old had suffered burns from the water.

Following the investigation, detectives applied for charges through the Court Commissioner, who approved and issued the arrest warrant that led to Jones being taken into custody.
