Cambridge, MD - A Cambridge man is facing assault charges after police say he attacked someone inside a home on Camelia Street late last Sunday night.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on April 26, 2026, Cambridge Police Department officers responded to the 800 block of Camelia St. in reference to a physical disturbance. When officers arrived, they made contact with the victim.

According to the victim, the alleged assault was carried out by 47-year-old Durelle Cortez Lake, of Cambridge, MD. The incident reportedly started because the victim had left the residence with a friend.

The victim told officers that when they returned to the home, the door was locked. They began knocking, and when the door opened, they stepped inside.

That's when things turned violent.

Once the victim entered the residence, Lake allegedly grabbed them by the back of their hair and shoved them to the ground. The victim reported attempting to defend themselves, but Lake grabbed them again and threw them to the ground a second time.

Officers on scene observed visible signs of injury to the victim.

Lake was placed under arrest following the incident. He was later released on his personal recognizance, meaning he was let go without having to post bail, based on a promise to appear in court.

Lake has been charged with Assault in the Second Degree.
